Official Days Off For New York Muslims



  Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Wednesday that New York City will add 2 Muslim holidays to the 1 million schoolchildren public schools calendars for official days off.

A decision that came as a ‘a change that respects the diversity of our city’ - Bill de Blasio.


"Today we'll announce the addition of Eid al-Adha & al-Fitr to holiday schedule, a change that respects the diversity of our city."

Starting from 2016, all public schools in New York City will close for the celebration of the two Eids; Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr. This was a big change, as the city holds 1 million student one of the largest school system in the United States of America.




 
The Muslim community received the news with delight as the children can join their families in the celebration of these two important Days that are full of spirituality, compassion and warmth. In the past, students have to skip school if they don't have exams on the Eid Day.However, now they can enjoy themselves as they counterparts Christians and Jews.
